Heart (February 12, 2019)
Tuesday, 5th Week in Ordinary Time
Today allow me to share to you this reflection posted by Fr. Philip I.
An old song asks, “Darling, where is your heart?” In the Gospel reading for Tuesday of Week 5 in Ordinary Time (Mark 7:1-13), Jesus quoted the words of Isaiah 29:13: “This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Mt 7:6). The heart of God’s people is far from Him – how often is this true to us as well? God created us His image and likeness so that our “HEART” [which is our mind and will, our thoughts and desires] may be aligned with God’s and so we will walk along the way of God, the way of love which is the only way towards true joy and enduring peace. But sadly sometimes or many times, we show by our choices and lifestyle that each one of us wants to say, “I did it my way.” We say we are for God but our actions belie our words. And worse, we camouflage and justify our insincerity and licentiousness with the disguise of religiosity, and we question, humiliate and even bully those who live the life of God. Let us LIVE what we PRAY every day: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.”
